ME TOO

"If all the women who have ever been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote "Me Too" as a status, we might start getting a sense of the magnitude of the problem. Please copy/paste. #metoo"

I'm right there with you, dear women. Me too. From the baby sitter who molested me as a young child, to the cat calls I received while running, to the uncomfortable stares and "accidental touching" from past co-workers, to the cutting comments about parts of my body that were "not good enough" from ex boyfriends - Me Too.

I don't usually talk about these experiences and I think of them very little. They just are not a focus of my life today.

BUT

Today, it is important to speak up. Today, it is my intention to extend empathy to my fellow women who DO think of their experiences because they have not yet healed. And because, I deeply understand the power of ME TOO.

"Me Too" are magic words. They cut through shame like butter. When we stand together in the light, the darkness of "not good enough" and "who do you think you are" vanishes. And that's what I want anyone hurting today to hear. You are not alone and it was never your fault and it does not make you any less of a person. You are still lovable and you still belong.

AND

I don't for a second want to add to the strong temptation to STAY THERE. Ok. You were victimized. I was victimized. The story doesn't end there. I challenge you to write the ending. How does the story go from here? This is still your life and you are not at the mercy of any person or experience. Own your future from here and TODAY.

AND

Here is my story today... I do not experience rudeness, objectification, or sexual abuse in my world today. I am surrounded by kind people of both sexes. I am grateful for men and women in my life who offer me the utmost respect, compassion, and love. And, when I look at these people, I choose to put my focus THERE. Because that is the life I want to live. There is a quote I love but don't remember the origin and it went something like this - "If you believe the world is full of kind people or dangerous people, you are right." What you focus on is what you will get more of. We all go through some shit. Make sure you don't get stuck there!

I want to honor one particularly kind and loving man in my life today. My husband, Dan, is so accepting of who I am and loves me because of my quirky imperfections. He SEES ME not just my shell. As we are extending our "me toos" to each other, let's also honor our men who have been kind, accepting, respectful, and loving. Please join me in honoring the men in your life who have shown you kindness and greatness. Please comment your "Me Too" in the comments AND a picture to celebrate a kind and respectable man in your life. <3
